lekker veel spul

Last week I bought 250 battered and worn antique doors in Bolsward, Friesland. They are all different lush colors and textures. As I construct my sculptures from old wood with the original paint layer intact this is an immense luxury for me. I’m all set for like the next decade or so.
Yeah-a !

also; I finished a new bas-relief today but my photocamara batteries were completely empty. I’ll show it here tomorrow.

I haven’t been posting much this week due to a mild case of flu. I’m ok and working in the day but evenings and nights it’s bad and i’m not capable of anything. Any how, here’s what i’ve been up to lately. I did the above piece for a show called Big Power Of Small Things thats being organized by Koen Deleare for Kathareze gallery in Tilburg. Koen selected 25 of his favorite artists for this show which will start december 1. I’ll post on that later.

Also i’m working on this large and complicated work for my 2008 seattle show. Its only just taking shape. It depicts the Schooner Roosevelt frozen in sea ice. This is the last work in my polar series. Next year it will be 100 years ago that R.E. Peary set out on his voyage that would lead to the discovery of the North Pole in april 2009. The Roosevelt was built especially for this expedition. It’s seen here drying her sails.

Wanted: your cassette deck!

Bell&Howell 87500 Solid State Cassette Recorder met Boom Box (japan)
Tokyo Colibri Auto Stop (korea)
Alvast bedankt!

For a project I hope to be doing in Worm Rotterdam I’m looking for some nice cassette decks to serve as a model for one of my basreliefs. I got above specimen last weekend kicking the bike all the way up to Zoeterwoude and back. It’s a Bell & Howell model 87500 ‘Solid State Cassette Recorder’ from the sixties. It came complete with an attachable Boom Box. Both appliances are battery operated. Ideal for beat picnics!
I need more decks.
If you have one you might be able to help me !!!
You could give or lend me your deck. I could comeby to take a picture or you could send me a photo of it. In that case it needs to be in the same perspective as the photo above.
At his time I have two decks:
Bell&Howell 87500 Solid State Cassette Recorder w. Boom Box (japan)
Tokyo Colibri Auto Stop (korea)
Thanks!

Space Ops (McMurdo)

I finished this basrelief 2 days ago. Because of the built in (white) background it has to hang on a white surface. I’ll see how that works out when I bring it to the gallery next week. It will be on show as soon as I finish the third piece.
JSOC McMurdo
The full name of the original building is Joint Space Operations Center and it stands at McMurdo South Pole Station. JSOC (Jay-Sock) was finished in 2005 and is state of the art. It’s the communications center for the base and it’s used by NASA and the US AirForce for tracking satellites and airplanes over the southern hemisphere. It’s so cramped full of computers that the building needs to be cooled in stead of heated.

This was the first work in the Antarctica series. It shows a building on the island of South Georgia known as the Managers Office. It was both start and finish for Ernest Shackletons spectacular Antarctic expedition of 1914-1916.

Space Ops (version)

As a second work in the Antarctic Buildings series i’m working on this relief depicting the Joint Space Center at McMurdo base. It has some very difficult features that allows me to seriously push the envelope on this one.
