TOOLS OF THE TRADE
> what tools and materials changed your life? <

My favorite tool are my glasses. Without them I am not able to engage with things from a distance – let alone my practice. They also reflect my sense of fashion trends (I like to think). These specifically are my artist’s glasses :) I use them when I am at openings, teaching or giving an artist talk to name a few. For the most part my eyesight has not changed which is good and I try to get a new pair at least once a year to reflect how I feel or want to feel.

tools and materials. Pictured here: A plastic weaving needle, blunt tapestry needle, a small coiling project (consisting of yarn and coiling core) and monofilament (aka fishing line). These materials/ tools are who I am as an artist today. The plastic weaving needle was my very first needle that I got in undergrad and have kept with me and still use for all my handweaving work. The blunt needle is just an upgrade from the plastic one. Monofilament came into my life during grad school (a pivotal moment in my practice) and has been with me since. The coiling work is something that only recently I started to use again mainly in my teaching practice. I am really interested in the ways that you can manipulate the core to create an array of shapes and vessels. It’s also a really meditative form of art making.
