Hoyt Axton – My Griffin Is Gone
Alemu Aga – Ethiopiques 11
Scout Niblett – This Fool Can Die Now
Ted Lucas – Ted Lucas
Kevin Ayers  – Shooting At The Moon
Bob Dylan The Bootleg Series vol. 5 Live 1975: The Rolling Thunder Revue
Foxy Brown – Broken Silence
Mickey Newbury – Harlequin Memories
Marisa Anderson – Mercury
Steve Gunn – The Unseen In Between

Hoyt Axton – My Griffin Is Gone
Super nice record from the golden age of country hi-fi that i discovered because Matt Sweeney recommended it in one of those youtube shows.

Alemu Aga – Ethiopiques 11
Intruiging record that is not for daily use but beautiful.

Scout Niblett – This Fool Can Die Now
I have been listening to this a lot lately. A friend of mine passed away recently and our last conversation was about Scout Niblett. Apparently she used to perform in a skeleton costume.

Ted Lucas – Ted Lucas
because it is sohooooooo nice, so nice to get stoned

Kevin Ayers  – Shooting At The Moon
It is very nice to sing the oehlalalalala from The Oyster and the Flying Fish with the whole family.

Bob Dylan The Bootleg Series vol. 5 Live 1975: – The Rolling Thunder Revue
I once attempted a Dylan for the Drunk playlist but this record covers most of it.
Please notice the diction on the word ‘affection’ in Oh Sister. Also a great moment in the documentary is Dylan running of stage and a reporter asks him: ‘How do you feel?’ and Dylan answers: ‘About what?’
The best version of ‘Isis’ live is not on this record but Live at Montreal Forum.

Foxy Brown – Broken Silence
I keep coming back to this record: Run Dem and Ill Na Na are my absolute favorites.

Mickey Newbury – Harlequin Memories
Very Lee Towers but also a great christmass record. I only recently discovered this.

Marisa Anderson – Mercury
fingerpicking can get on your nerves sometimes so i do not often listen tot his whole album
but there are really pretty pieces on this album like Mesquite Shade.

Steve Gunn – The Unseen In Between
Steve Gunn is a favorite of mine and Morning Is Mended has been on repeat a lot this year.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE
> what tools and materials changed your life? <

Probably the most influentual tool for me is a grey pencil but that is probably true for any artist. Also lifechanging was the Boss loop pedal.
I bought it originally to figure out harmonies for songs i was writing but it soon lead me to a more autonomous approach.
I also tried to make collages in preparation for paintings and they also became just collages. The loop pedal completely changed the way i think about guitar playing
and music in general. It opened my ears to drone, ambient and improvised music. It allowed me to create multi-layered improvised compositions in which crackles and hiss would be just as important musically as the notes and chords. I soon bought a second one to make loops that run seperately from one another and overlap and shift to add more surprises and incidents.
In the beginning i tried to make some rhythm but soon just used them only to create sort of sound paintings. I still use these pedals daily but nowadays i am more focussed on sort of stereo guitar where the signal is split into two signals that run through different fx-loops. I used this technigue also on my record Time Is A Spider (although subtle) That records is a collection of one-take recording of songs where instead of using overdubs to create harmonies the guitar signal was send to different fx that we fade in during chorusses etc. It was also my main technique for the three SuperScopeQQ releases. The loop pedal is a great musical tool that can really help you discover many things on your own.
It has its limits and at one point you have to overcome it artistically but in my case it really opened my mind to many new things.
